Prospera Credit Union alerts public of ATM fraud

MENASHA, Wis. (Oct. 25, 2023) — Prospera Credit Union has discovered that three of its ATMs were compromised by skimming devices between Oct. 17-24, 2023. Prospera Credit Union worked swiftly and diligently with local law enforcement to apprehend suspects at the Menasha location the evening of Oct. 24, 2023 and continues to work closely with multiple law enforcement agencies in their investigation of these crimes.

“We have identified those individuals who have been affected and are contacting them to take the appropriate steps to ensure that members are aware, help them protect their accounts, and to address any unrecognized transactions. At this time, only a small number of accounts appear to have unauthorized transactions,” said James Guard, Risk Manager, Prospera Credit Union. “It is important to note that no personal data, beyond card numbers and pins, was accessed by these devices. No security breach took place, and the criminals were not able to break into Prospera’s computer systems. This incident was focused on ATMs and a limited amount of debit cards and ensuring Prospera’s member data continues to be safe and secure.”

Prospera Credit Union has removed the skimming devices and inspected all of our ATMs to ensure they are safe for use.

“We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused and assure our community of our commitment to maintaining the highest level of security measures,” Guard said.

If anyone has questions or concerns about their accounts, they are asked to contact Prospera Credit Union directly at (920) 882-4800.
