Mobile Check Deposit Fraud
There has been a recent increase in fraud/scams within Mobile Check Deposit. Our goal here at Prospera is to protect our members. So, we wanted to share a few tips to help protect yourself.
1. Never give out your login credentials
2. If you receive a check that you were not expecting, contact us before you deposit the check
3. Be sure to watch your account and review it as often as possible
The Sweetheart Scam is one of the most common scams. Scammers will find victims via online dating sites. They will create a fake profile and gain the trust of their victim. Once they have their trust, they create a “problem” and ask their victim for money or their banking information.
Things to be cautious of:
- If you are ever instructed to send back a portion of the check, this is most likely a scam. You should never be asked to send money back. It is very rare that someone will print a check for too much on accident and then ask for it back.
- If you entered a contest and are told you won and all you have to do is send a portion of the check back or pay a fee, this is a scam. You should never have to pay money to win money
